Planning for Wedding Flowers

Congratulations on your upcoming celebration! Planning for a wedding involves many details, timing, and takes effort to pull everything together for the big day.

When planning for your flowers, the first decision should be budgeting based on the size of your wedding party and venue. Some venues involve a bride, a groom, and a judge at the courthouse (what we call a small wedding which will run a couple hundred dollars for flowers), some venues involve extravagant decoration and 8-10 attendants (large weddings which may involve upward of $2000 or more). To obtain a “ballpark” number, determine your overall wedding budget based on the cost of your chosen venue, number of guests, and size of your wedding party. Make sure you select a florist you like who is both available on your event day, and can demonstrate (via pictures and website pages) that they have the experience and style that will work for your selected venue. If you are working with a wedding planner, ask the wedding planner to provide these details to you to ensure you will be happy with the floral designs for your wedding.

Getting back to the flowers – a good florist will sit down with you, either in-person, via zoom, or possibly a combination of phone and texting of photos and ideas – to get a full detailed understanding of the bride’s vision, the event theme, and start formulating ideas for the floral arrangements and bouquets needed. Don’t settle for a mediocre florist to throw together some flowers at the last minute. As soon as you have selected your bridal gown and attendant dresses and determine details on the groomsmen attire – you are ready to meet with your florist.

What should I bring? Make that call, schedule the bridal consultation, and make sure to have pics ready on your phone to describe color, texture, and important aspects of your venue/theme. Together with your florist, s/he will start to imagine and create your bridal bouquet, boutonnieres (bouts), corsages, centerpieces, alter arrangements, and other pieces that will complement your theme and put add the final touches to your special day!
